Common Causes of Manual Handling Injuries

Different managerial styles have created some of the greatest companies in the world. Some are driven forward by the ambition and inspiration of their leaders, while others adopt a synergistic approach that combines to achieve great things.

What they have in common are great people, great employees, the worker bees that push productivity. Online manual handling training is a tool that all managers, regardless of their style, should view as a means of protecting the assets that create value under their employ and promoting a greater degree of cohesion in workplace health.

The best kind of workplace is one that promotes open communication. Here at Corporate Work Health Australia, we have worked with many different companies who share an enthusiasm for great communication with their workers. This often brings to light the need for a online manual handling course and those who complete online manual handling courses typically have less workplace injuries.

Protect Your Staff with Manual Handling Training

Manual handling is an important part of a lot of businesses and by ensuring that you get it right, you are creating a safer work environment for all your employees. At Corporate Work Health Australia, our manual handling training gives your business exactly what it needs, allowing it to prosper and grow.

Manual handling refers to any sort of movement that happens in your workplace where you are expected to lift, carry, push, pull or put down goods. Goods can range from small items to larger items. With a manual handling course, you can be sure that your employees are doing their work correctly, which therefore minimises the chance of injuries from occurring.

At Corporate Work Health Australia, we offer manual handling training courses to suit your business and your budget. This includes phone consultations and emails to assess how your practice currently stands, as well as offering online training workshops.

Reduce Injuries and Compensation

Manual handling is the most common cause of injury in Australia. 107,355 serious claims were lodged in the 2014-15 financial year. Injury and musculoskeletal disorders led to 90% of these serious claims, with the most common traumatic joint/ligament and muscle/tendon injuries (almost 45%). In 2012–13, work-related injury and disease cost the Australian economy $61.8 billion. Injuries accounted for $28 billion (45%) of the cost.

Manual handling (now manual tasks 2010) means more than just lifting or carrying something. The term ‘manual tasks’ is used to describe a range of activities including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, moving, holding or restraining an object, animal or person. This means that all of your workers are exposed to and are at risk of manual handling injuries. Australian WHS (OH&S) legislation requires employers to identify, assess and control workplace hazards.

One of these hazards is the risk of injury caused by manual tasks. The national standard for manual tasks requires that all tasks in your workplace which involve manual handling are identified and that the risk of injury is assessed. Where there is risk of injury, suitable ‘control measures’ must be introduced. Manual handling training is one such control measure.

Corporate Work Health Australia: Your First Choice for Manual Handling Training

As an employer, providing a good manual handling program is your responsibility so that you can protect your workers. Workers that feel valued and their health cared for will not only produce better work because they have the tools and know-how to be able to complete it, but also because they want to work hard for a caring employer.

Legally, you are obliged to make sure that your workers are safe and identify any areas that pose a hazardous risk to staff. At Corporate Work Health Australia, we can complete a manual handling risk assessment. By being aware of the hazards, your manual handling training * can ensure that these risks are highlighted and dealt with.
